Cheaper Home Batteries Program
The Australian Government is introducing the $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program to make battery storage more accessible for households, small businesses, and community organisations. Starting 1 July 2025, eligible participants can receive an upfront discount of approximately 30% on the installation cost of small-scale battery systems. This initiative aims to enhance the benefits of rooftop solar by enabling the storage of excess solar energy for use during peak demand periods.
Key Features:
- Eligibility: Available to households, small businesses, and community organisations installing batteries alongside new or existing rooftop solar systems.
Battery Specifications: Applies to battery systems under 100 kWh that are listed on the Clean Energy Council’s approved products list.
Financial Incentive: Offers an upfront discount of around 30% on battery installation costs.
Program Delivery: Implemented through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), with discounts decreasing annually until the scheme concludes in 2030.
Additional Support: Can be combined with certain state-level incentives, such as those offered in New South Wales.
